Making anagrams of “World Design Capital Helsinki”
The World Design Capital year in Helsinki is coming to an end, but before Helsinki systematically starts destroying all design in town we here at the Kasper Stromman Design Blog have decided to make a nostalgic recap of the year. But with over six million WDC related events in 2012, how do you pick the ones that really stood out?
We chose the method of anagram. The following sentences are anagrams of “World Design Capital Helsinki”.

1. Lacking Handwrite Ellipsoids
Not true. If it’s one thing WDC Helsinki will be rembered for it is it’s handwritten ellipsoids.

2. Awarding pointless childlike
Not many people got their design-savvy claws on this limited edition Aku Ankka, but the ones that did could never forget the forced design element of the stories.

3. Drowsing elliptical skinhead
What first started out as a fun mascot soon became the most prolific part of WDC.

4. Idiotical grandnephew skills
Come on, that’s a bit harsh, don’t you think?

5. Hallowed slackening dispirit
Really? But it has to be true since everyone knows anagrams don’t lie.
A letter from Ville
Hey,
Just wanted to let you know that I spotted Stefan Lindfors‘ design bus stop hibernating at the Koskela bus depot.
Seasons Greetings from the Design Capital!

Top 3 design objects at the Everyday Discoveries expo

Suvilahti is currently hosting the Everyday Discoveries expo, a kind of mini world design exhibition which showcases design from over twenty different countries.
We here at the Kasper Stromman Design Blog however were only interested in the Finnish pavillion (read: shipping container), which focuses on objects designed to cope with the harsh Finnish winter. Here’s a top 3.

3. Sangria bowl
Just turn up the heat in your flat, mix some red wine with oranges, and BOOM, the winter months just fly by. Please note that this is a traditional wooden model – these days they are of course mostly made out of brushed aluminium.

2. Books about Marimekko
Nothing gets the blood circulating more than reading books about Marimekko in front of the radiator. That’s why it’s generally agreed on between publishing houses to never publish less than three a year.

1. WDC SUV
Because nothing takes you through the winter like a big, strong German-made SUV. Wroom!
At the time of writing the Everyday Discoveries exhibition is still open for like ten minutes, which means you never going to make it even if you try. Ha ha!
Redesigning the Kasper Stromman Design Blog toilet facilities
Guess what? We’ve redesigned the Kasper Stromman Design Blog Worldwide Headquarters toilet facilities! Before we just had an ordinary toilet…

… but now our restroom is called the Water Design Closet, or WDC for short.

We like this new acronym. It’s got a nice ring to it.
Moikka & Moi talk on Friday

Kasper Stromman will be talking at the Moikka & Moi event together with Sofia Østerhus at the WDC Pavilion this coming Friday. At the moment it looks like the theme will be food, and don’t think for a minute it won’t feature this guy, because it will:

Rumour has it there will be sponsored beer as well. Welcome!
