Book review: Finland Exports, 1986

Finland Exports is a coffee table book published in 1986 advertising all the wonderful stuff Finland was manufacturing 25 years ago. Here are the Kasper Stromman Design Blog favourites.

Tiny cars
These were a big seller for a couple of years, but then people realized you really couldn’t fit into them properly plus they were impractical when it was raining. Kasper Stromman Design Blog favourite: “the Beaver”.

Tiny trees
While not necessarily a substitute for a real, full-grown tree these were nonetheless really easy to export due to their size. It’s a shame nobody wanted them though. By now the buyer could have grown their own log cabin.

Massive firepower
These were always sold in packs of three. The premium edition also used to include a metal saw so you could make your own sawn-off shotgun for extra impact.

Photo models with cocaine habits
Wheelbarrow full of Colombian bam-bam cropped just out of picture.

Short haired women in bathing suits
Nothing people are too keen to talk about today, but this was one of Finlands main exports up until 1992.

Soviet suburbs
Number one export of all times.
