Canal of the Month: Strömman kanava
The Kasper Stromman Design Blog Canal of the Month is Strömman kanava, a wonder of engineering from 1968 where upside down anchors are not tolerated and fish are plentiful.
This magical canal is the only place in Finland where tide can be observed, and features an exciting drawbridge which probably isn’t raised more than once every decade, since the transportation of iron ore through the canal stopped in 1897 or so.
Folklore also has it there used to be a shop called Strömman valinta next to the canal, but from the looks of it that must have shut down a while ago.
All in all this is still a quality canal, and holds a special place in all our hearts here at the Kasper Stromman Design Blog.
Canal rating: 5/5
Yey Strömman kanava!
