New Helsinki neighbourhood!
Good news, architecture lovers!
Somebody has built a new neighbourhood on the sly in between Hämeentie and the Helsinki “meatpacking district”; we hear it’s called Etelä-Hermanni.

The City Planning Department takes extra care on their website to point out that “the land is of good quality and not polluted”, which sounds great. That if anything truly is a great foundation for quality living.

The developers have also done some smart moves like instead of building a lot of small, separate houses they have created clever “blocks of flats” where people live on top of each other. This means you can fit in some 2,500 persons on an area smaller than Belgium.

All in all the city planner’s phrase “urban living in a park-like environment” is a pretty accurate description of what this new area is like – in fact we believe this could be the future of architecture.
So remember you heard it here first: in the future we will all be living on top of each other in parks.
